From: Eric
RE: A few musings from the week, with included movie moments.

Good afternoon panel!

A couple of things from the past week.

Last weekend, I had a listener meetup with Liz and friends to try my hand at pheasant hunting  Great to meet up with like minded individuals.  Had a great day, but no luck with the hunt.

On my way to and from the hunting area, I thought that I would expand my listening library and take in some of the CCFR podcast episodes.  After listening to 4 episodes, I believe that I now have a better understanding of Rod Giltaca.  Or not.  It seems to me that one of the favourite subjects to speak on is "Things I have done".  I am sure that the CCFR as an organization does good work on behalf of Canadian firearms owners, but to paraphrase Adhemar from the movie "A Knight's Tale", the podcast has been weighed, has been measured, and has been found wanting.  Frankly, I expected a little more.  Thoughts on that?

Secondly, another appropriate movie reference. My utter contempt and loathing for all things federal government related has been "turned up to 11", after the shenanigans pulled with C21 this past week.  Clearly the idiots in Ottawa do not know the difference between an "amendment" and a "complete rewrite"! (FYI, the movie was "This is Spinal Tap", if you were not aware)

Looking forward to this week's discussion!

Best Regards,

Eric

RE: Amend This Episode

Hello, I appreciate the effort and content you put in the podcasts, but the Amend This episode will be my last.

Hearing a person refer to firearms as “weapons of mass destruction” and stating “you have the right to hunt even though you don’t need to”  in this episode is counter productive and divisive to people who value freedom.

The ability to take care of yourself or your family whether it be fishing, hunting or growing food is an essential skill worth learning and may be useful given the situation we face.

Marksmanship and accuracy are worthwhile and respectable  pursuits that should join the sport shooting and hunting communities. The aforementioned commentary is neither accurate or respectable.

Thank you for the past episodes and I wish you the best in future endeavours.

Gerry

Gun Bust

-91% traced back to the US -57 out of 62

-Only one firearm originated in Ontario. It was determined to have been stolen during a break-and-enter in 2021.

-260 charges against the six suspects

-One suspect, 27-year-old Syed Mohammed Ali Zaidi, is also facing additional charges in relation to a shooting that took place inside Bar Karma near Queen and Portland streets on Oct. 19, 2021.

-three AK-type rifles, one of which was loaded with 61 rounds of ammunition,” as well as 15 “AR-15 type carbine style rifles.”

-Toronto Mayor John Tory called it an “excellent piece of police work.”

But he said it is a reminder of the work that needs to be done to reduce the flows of guns that come into Canada via the U.S. border.

“I think we can't rely on local police services to find the people trafficking these guns. That means they're already here and the best place to cut this off is at the border, to stop the guns from coming across from the US, which is where they're coming from,” he said. “Perhaps we could work with the Government of Canada to do more of this. It is a border matter. But it is a serious, serious problem and it is leading to death and trauma in communities.”

-Syed Mohammed Ali Zaidi, 27, of Toronto, has been charged with:

Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offense

four counts of Possession for the Purpose of Weapon Trafficking

51 counts of Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm

Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

eight counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

Possession of Proceeds of Crime Over $5000

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

Trudeau Listening to concerns about hunting rifles
https://www.durhamradionews.com/archives/162603

-the prime minister framed the amendment as a “list put forward” by the government for public consultation.

“We’re hearing a lot of feedback around concerns that hunters are saying about guns that they use more for hunting, hunting rifles and shotguns,”

he said. “That’s what we’re listening to feedback on now, to make sure we’re not capturing weapons that are primarily hunting weapons.”

"That's what we're listening to feedback on now—to make sure that we're not capturing weapons that are primarily hunting weapons," PM Trudeau tells media when asked whether he’d consider changes to Bill C-21 amendment amid concerns re: expanded prohibited firearms list.

Gun ban calls into question NDP support

https://nationalpost.com/news/liberal-gun-control-bill-raises-questions-about-ndp-support?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1670277118

-One prominent New Democrat came out against the policy on Monday, calling it a massive overreach that must be fixed.

-Meanwhile, the national conversation on gun control took an interesting turn over the weekend after Montreal Canadiens’ netminder and avid hunter Carey Price weighed in on the issue on social media.

-Price’s timing of his announcement so close to the anniversary are also being roundly criticized.

The team’s owner told Radio-Canada on Monday that the 35-year-old Price was not aware of the 1989 massacre.

“I am not a criminal or a threat to society,” he posted to Instagram, along with a photo of him wearing camouflage hunting gear and cradling a shotgun.

“What @justinpjtrudeau is trying to do is unjust. I support the @ccfr_ccdaf (Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights) to keep my hunting tools.”

-Separately, a spokesperson for Public Security Minister Marco Mendicino told La Presse that the firearm Price is carrying in his Instagram post would not be banned under Bill C-21.

“Our bill does not target firearms currently used for hunting and we fully respect the traditions of hunters and Indigenous Peoples,” Audrey Champoux said in a statement.

-political science Professor Kathy Brock said gun control offers a unique dilemma to the NDP, who rely heavily on both inner-city voters and those in rural parts of the country.

“This one is very difficult for the NDP to find a united consensus position on,” she told the National Post.

“They are putting the NDP in a very difficult position that could cause a bit of a schism and tension in the relationship between the NDP and Liberals, but also within the NDP party.”

-Veteran NDP MP Charlie Angus who represents Timmins-James Bay, a vast northern Ontario riding encompassing nearly 252,000 sq. km. and a diverse range of rural cities, villages and First Nations communities, is speaking out.

This is a good article on how the Liberal government promise to ban hand guns morphed into a massive overreach including hunting rifles and shotguns.

The 11th hour amendment thrown into Bill C-21 is hugely problematic and must be fixed

Electric Vehicle Plant

-Trudeau “Every government in the world would love to invest millions of dollars to draw in places like this,” he said during a news conference at the plant in southwestern Ontario.

-The provincial and federal governments each invested $259 million toward GM’s $2-billion plan for the Ingersoll plant and to overhaul its Oshawa, Ont., plant to make it EV-ready.

-The federal government said the Ingersoll plant is expected to manufacture 50,000 electric vehicles by 2025.

-Premier Doug Ford called GM’s commitment to the plant “a massive vote of confidence” in Ontario but said there was more work to do given the uncertain economy.

“We’ve brought back the auto sector,” he said. “These vehicles are going to be produced with clean steel, clean energy and great people.”

Ford had scrapped EV rebates shortly after he was first elected in 2018 and his government ended the province’s cap-and-trade program, which funded the rebates, later that year.

-The federal government offers up to $5,000 off the cost of new electric cars with a base price under $55,000, or pickup trucks, SUVs and vans under $60,000.
