News

A widely shared video on social media depicts a tense confrontation between a 21-year-old man and Calgary police officers after bylaw services were called to the Southwood community rink on Thursday.

Despite signage posted at the site, police said more than 40 people were using the outdoor rink — breaking gathering restrictions intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Subject: street level convictions

gonna try to get this point across without taking too much of you time.

yesterday right after work my coworker  left his place with weed and rolled through a City Police  checkstop.  the officer smelled weed and administered a field sobriety test.  he issued my friend a 72 hour license suspension & impounded the vehicle.  this   is a very impactful  outcome as it carries a host of conditions ie   impaired driving course.  demerit points.  increased license costs and  more.  all this is  done  on  the   keen? observation  of a so called "trained expert  without a shred of actual evidence.

at the checkstop the police told him to protest would take a blood test, but the results would take 60 days and his license would be held in forfeiture till then

after a bunch of phone calls today he was told by sgi the only thing to appeal is the 3 days  license suspension but that the process would take longer than 3 days. there is no way to appeal the $175 impared driving course, the estimated $265 tow and impound fee or the demerit points unless he was charged with a criminal offense of DUI. but since it was only a temporary license suspension, there is nothing to appeal, except the $360 charge of weed in an non govermentized container which he says he will not contest.

since he was not "criminally" charged for the DUI he doesn't even get a day in court .

law enforcement's  trained expert    passed the judgment in the field and  my friend  has   virtually NO  path to justice.

am I wrong in thinking this is a shit bag deal  ?

12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos

Notes:

  • A self-help book that isn’t. It's written in a very strange way and contains elements of clinical psychology (Peterson’s field), personal anecdotes, summaries of academic work
  • It’s written very conversationally, but Peterson has a unique diction and can be hard to follow at times
  • Some critics appear critical because of Peterson’s outspoken stance on “Cultural Marxists” and  perspective on God; what is true, beautiful, and moral.

Rules:

  1. Stand up straight with your shoulders back
  2. Treat yourself like you are someone you are responsible for helping
  3. Make friends with people who want the best for you
  4. Compare yourself with who you were yesterday, not with who someone else is today
  5. Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them
  6. Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world
  7. Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)
  8. Tell the truth — or, at least, don’t lie
  9. Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t
  10. Be precise in your speech
  11. Do not bother children when they are skate-boarding
  12. Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street

From Mr Uzi

Dear Slam Fire Radio,

First I must tell you how genuinely satisfied with the quality of your show’s audio. For a show that isn’t hosted by a bunch of self-proclaimed industry experts in security and technology you guys rock. Taking the time to provide us with quality content that doesn’t blow out my speakers out it is excellent, taking pride in the free work you do for us is a huge thing in my books, and actually using the money received via your Patreon account and Amazon affiliate links to improve the show is a vest step above those shows that choose to purchase diapers with theirs. I don’t actually partake in the Patreon thing, but the cash I give to Frosty once a year seems to be doing something worthwhile. Enough rambling I can’t wait to hear about Trevor’s radio controlled snowmobile races as winter sets in, Kelly’s adventures in winter seed land, and Adriel’s shopping deals and testing results.

RE:Rucknasty

From: Billy

Hello,

I just listened to your podcast and figured I would give some input from my experience with rucking.

A little bit of my background.  I did a contract in the Canadian Army, I was a POG, but during this time I competed in Patrol Competition and 1 CMBG's Mountain Man.  I also picked up sheep hunting two years ago.  Sheep hunting really thrust me into the back country and the rucking world.  I have done several scouting trips and 2 hunts going after sheep.  These trips ranged from 2-7 days and 50-150km, living out of my pack in the mountains.  Last year's hunt concluded with a 20km packout with 97lbs of sheep and gear on my back after killing a Ram.

Trekking poles are your friend.  They are a real knee saver going downhill and an energy saver going uphill.  They even save energy on flat ground with a heavy pack.  They also save your ass from falling over while crossing difficult terrain like shale, deadfall, and slipper rocks on creek crossings.  One downside is they occupy your hands while in use.  Slings, bear spray holsters and Kifaru gunbearers help keep anything you need rapidly accessible.  I buy the carbon fibre ones from Costco for cheap and simply return them for a new pair if one snaps on a trip.

I disagree with some of the things you guys had to say about nutrition while rucking.  Proteins and fat are obviously a must for a daily diet, but don't do you any favours while rucking.  Proteins and fat digest too slow for your body to utilize the energy during high exertion.  This leads to cramps and fatigue.  Stick to simple carbs while actually rucking.  My favourite is Swedish Berries.  Pop in a couple every 15 minutes while climbing our pounding ground to keep your energy levels up.  Save the fats and proteins for when you are sitting down for a break.  Trace mineral tablets are a cheap and lite way to replenish salts while working up a good lather too.

I liked your weight recommendations for training.  I personally went too heavy a few times during training around 80-120lbs.  I thought this was getting a good burn done in a short time but it put too much strain on my joints.  Stick to 70lbs and lower with hills incorporated to achieve a good workout with happy joints in a shorter amount of time.  My current training pack setup is a 60lb sandbag mounted on my load shelf plus water and pack weight, this brings me to ~70lbs and seems to work good for me.   I use a sandbag because free-weights, dumbbells and other hard/dense objects beat the shit out of your pack and don't represent a load when it comes to weight distribution.

For socks, I really like Darn Tough socks.  They are merino and have a lifetime warranty.  I trialed them along with a pair of Smartwools and the Darn Tough socks are superior in my opinion.  I wear them with army sock liners or other sock liners I have purchased over the years.  My feet have become butter-soft bitches after years of wearing the two-sock system in the army and while working my next job.  The single socks, no matter the sales pitch, don't work for me.

For hotspot and blister care Leukotape is top of the dog pile.  Buy some off amazon, roll some around a Bic so you don't have to carry a full roll, and be done with it.  It stays on your feet for days and won't fall off no matter how wet it gets.  Don't waste your time with any of the other shit.

You touched a bit on packs that might be ok for the casual user but failed to mention the big 3.  Kifaru, Exo Mtn Gear, and Stone Glacier.  These are companies that primarily focus on back country hunting.   My hunting crew and I all like the Exo packs we own.  They are smartly designed, carry heavy loads without being painful and have a great warranty.  All 3 of these companies offer different sized bags that work on their frame system, so you can buy one frame and multiple bags if you need different capacity depending on use.  I want to try a Kifaru one of these years because everyone I talk to that uses them loves them, and Aron Snyder is a badass.

These companies all cost around $1000 CAD.  They all blow a Mystery Ranch out of the water.  One of my hunting partners bought a MR before his Exo.  The MR had way less padding on the hip belt and shoulder straps and didn't carry weight as well.  I know Exo offers a 10% Vet/Mil discount, so that basically covers shipping.   These brands tend to hold their resale value once north of the boarder too.

Happy Rucking,

Billy

Partisan Prepping 1 - Rucking

What is ruck marching?

  • Walking under a load
  • From Go Ruck
    • RUCK•ING [VERB] // Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack). It implies action, energy, and purpose. Rucking requires strength, endurance, and character — and builds it, too.
  • Derives from the military where soldiers had to carry their own equipment going back to at least the Roman Legion. Modern militaries use it for conditioning and training
  • It is simple, low cost, low impact, cardio training

Why ruck march?

  • For fun and fitness
  • 200lb man example
    • Running at 8 km/h (7:27 pace) burns 755 calories
    • Walking (5.5km/h) 390 calories
    • Rucking 50% more calories. 50lb pack, 585 calories per hour
  • Less (at least different) stress on joints
    • 12x weight with running
    • 3x weight with rucking/walking
  • Build strength in your shoulders, back, and lower body
  • It’s a good way to do cardio, low impact, still gets to target heart rate zone

How to select a rucksack

  • Factors to consider
    • Cost
    • Size
    • pockets/pouches and organization
    • Expansion and integration in to your systems
    • Frame
      • Internal
      • External
  • Padded yoke/shoulder straps
  • Waist belt
  • Recommendations
    • Mystery Ranch
    • Eberlestock
    • Go Ruck (maybe)
    • Tactical 3 Day Assault packs
      • 5.11, First Tactical, etc
    • Surplus
      • US ALICE pack - 62L
      • US MOLLE pack - 65L
      • CF82 - 45L
      • USMC FILBE - 81L

How to pack your rucksack

  • Heavy items in the middle close to the body (between the shoulder blades)
  • Start light 10% of your body weight or less add a few lbs at a time until you reach 25%
  • Any weight will work. Protip: start with 4l jugs of water
    • 1L of water = 1kg/2.2lbs
    • If you over packed dump the water on the ground, no one will be mad, and you don’t lose expensive weights
  • Waterproof clothes (ziplock bags)
  • Use compartments/pouches
  • Put frequently used items at the top

How to ruck

  • A dry foot is a happy foot
    • Good boots and (wool)socks
  • Hydration before and during
    • Electrolytes
  • Food
    • Carbs, protein, fats
  • It is vitally important to that your spine remains neutral
  • Squeeze the glutes and activate the posterior chain to bring the spin into neutral
  • Balance the load between shoulder straps and waist belt
  • Walking Technique
    • Short steps
    • Both feet on the ground
    • Lean slightly forward
    • natural/neutral arms
    • Going up hills good foot placement
    • Going down hill walk with a natural bend in knee, try to go slow
  • Do not stop
  • Do not run

How long /  How often

  • Once or twice a week with light weight for 20 to 30 minutes to start
  • Increase time or weight (while maintaining pace)
  • It is easy to overtrain by going too heavy, too far, too fast

Accessory workouts

  • Squats
  • Deadlifts
  • Lunges
  • Leg presses and curls (if you have the machines)

Re: Hey Guys

Hey Guys,

Long time listener, first time feedback.

You guys need debate.

I agree, you agree, most agree with your positions.

I know, this is a “target audience” world and I found you because I am of like mind.

But tonight’s episode of feedback, a listener asked about how to get hunters to care about firearms rights.

In my opinion, which is worth a wooden nickel...you need debate. Disagreement.

Or a louder personality.

Andrew, your potential here is high.

I’m a hot head.

If you can’t do it, listener call in.

Stir the pot boys.

Love what you’re doing, but let’s attract more of the fence sitters.

Also, none of you should hesitate to get into politics. You’re already comfortable on a microphone with people listening.

Keep it up. No boner joke here.

Taylor Jack

PS: start chronologically keeping track of your Orwellian predictions. I think you’re on the money.

Re: Internment Camp Docs

Hello there! I want to thank you for covering these important issues that are going on in our nation and world today. I've found it hard to find a podcast that deals with anything Canadian at all. Attached are some documents that detail the bid for these concentration... I mean "internment camps". I am have a limited reach and thought that these may be of use to you. If you already have seen these, than great! I just want to get the word out there as much as possible. Especially since certain countries are no longer hiding the fact that they will hold you indefinitely until you submit to what they want ( New Zealand comes to mind). The message from archbishop Carlo Vigano to the POTUS is a further wake up call. Sorry for the long winded message and hopefully these can be of some use to awaken our fellow Canadians to the fuckery that is going on right before their eyes.

Outlined in the pdf files is the bid and what appears to be amendments.

Good Luck to you and stay Free,

Subject: Thank you

Hi there, I’ve been meaning to send a quick thank you note for publishing a link to my e-petition I wrote a while back which was the first of the 3 main ones to close.

It didn’t get as many numbers as I had hoped, but all voices matter - and you helped me make that voice, that much louder.

For that and all you do, thank you!

Emile (Miller) Saurette

Author of e-2582

Subject: Fudds & guns

From: Greg
episode 259  you are almost 100 percent correct.  I personally mostly only own  hunting  guns

however I do understand the  how easy it is for government to trample  gun rights and what happens after the guns are gone. .

but...  when i discuss this with other hunters they are mostly so apathetic they might as well  be banning  manual can openers.

these people seem to think  bad stuff cant happen here...

what will it take to get canadians to OPEN THEIR EFFING EYES ?

Subject: Audio recommendation and feedback

From: Troy

In the morning boys!

Im enjoying your podcast. Although i find that the audio from someone sounds like theyre talking through a tin can.

I would like to recommend you check out the podfather's set up for podcasting equipment.

http://adam.curry.com/html/PODFATHERGEAR-qKX0Rs9Gtp6GkGmxBTJF4Zt8wlRpjr.html

A reason why a lot of gun owners were not at the protest is in part of the covid bullshit where you must quarantine for 2 weeks going to another province out of the bubble, ans 2 weeks when you get back.

Majority of people cant afford to take a month off.

Another reason why is because travelling is also super expensive.

Im working on getting my PAL here in the maritimes, and i cant wait to get it.

Cheers

-Mothers, Racialized Canadians and Indigeouns people face greater struggles during covid, also youth and lower income people,

-Climate change goals must be met because of covid

4 foundations

-fight the pandemic, protect canadians, especially the most vulnerable, 9 million canadians on CERB, more Contact tracing and testing, impose appropriate measure when needed, 19 billion spent spent to reinforce health network, billions in safe back to school programs, and more for indigenous communities, covid alert app, create and approve vaccine immediately, investments have been made to get vaccine out quickly

-support business and individuals during the pandemic, wage top up for support workers, not the time for austerity, worse than the 2018 recession, CERB and wage subsidy, government will take on debt so individuals don't have to, unemployment is in double digits, women, racialised canadians are bulk of unemployed, programs to create 1 million jobs with direct investments into the social sector, immediate training, employer incentive to hire and retain workers, wage subsidy extended to summer 2021, create jobs for young canadians, Canadian recovery benefit program, women especially low income women hit hardest dubbed she-cession, must avoid rolling back of women in the workforce, create an action plan for women and to ensure a femenist and intersectional approach to dealing with the pandemic, more accessible, affordable inclusive child care, early learning and child care system, flexible child care arrangements must be made available, extend bussiness subsidies and access to loans, especially for travel and entertainment industries. Canada would be in more debt if the government didn’t do what it did because of its advantage to lock in low interest rates tax the wealthy,

-Build back better more resilient canada by strengthening the middle class, building safer communities, don't go back to business as usual, resilience agenda for the middle class, address the gaps, increase health care, fight climate change, federal government will empower provinces to better look after elderly and publish new standards for their care, will also make changes to the criminal code to better able them to go after those who don't look after the eldery to their standards, inclusive plan, income supplement, Virtual health care, opioid epidemic, mental health, federal universal drug plans to keep drug prices low, ban assault style firearms, provide municipalities ability to ban or restrict firearms, must protect women from guns, all canadians must have internet, universal broadband, reliable regional airlines, 1 billion dollars to the homeless, first time home buyer incentive to help middle class, partner with NFP and Co-Ops for lower income housing, free automatic simple tax filing, climate change cornerstone of job creation, immediate implement a plan to overshoot climate action goals, zero emission vehicles, zero emission batteries, new fund to attract interest in zero emission products, recognize farmers, foresters and ranchers as partners in fighting climate change, ban single use plastics in 2021,

-stand up for who we are, fight gender inequality, reconciliation with idigenous people, move forward faster with distinction based physical health and mental health programs for indigenous, continue to look into missing and murdered indigeouns women, meet clean drinking water initiative, implement UN declaration on idegouns rights before the end of the year, Covid affected racialized canadians the most, attack systemic racism based on lived experience of racialized canadians, take action on online hate, black entrepreneur program, anti racism secretariat, economic empowerment for specific communities, initiative to hire minorities for public sector positions, black and indegounous are over represented in the criminal justice system, government will ensure the strong hand of criminal justice will be used to ensure everyone's safety but not where it will be discriminatory or counter productive, introduce legislation to address systemic injustices in the justice system, more civilian oversight for police including RCMP, modernize training and update standards for use of force, community led policing for the RCMP, co-develop legislative framework for indegouns policing as an essential service. Protect francophones and the french language outside of quebec, make it easier for immigrants to seek permanent residency, increased immigration and supports family reconciliation, increased international development, help fight covid worldwide, no citizens to be arbitrarily detained

Jagmeets response:

Liberals say the right thing, but don’t deliver. Pharmacare and housing not delivered upon, proposal to cut the help canadians need because they can’t go back to work (CERB payments being dropped from 2000-1600, but originally he played it off as being cut all together not reduced), keep CERB and add more paid sick days, won’t tear down government ie reject the throne speech,

Subject: Building Glocks

Hey CPP,

I'm looking to get your thoughts on Glock parts. I'm planning to build a 17 and 19 from serialized polymer 80 frames. My main goal is reliability and I'm not trying to build a $2000 race gun. With so many companies making Glock parts now I don't know where to start. Any advice would be appreciated!

With that being said, if you guys know anyone with Glock 17/19 Gen 3 spare parts for sale please let me know.

Thanks,

Corey.

From: Mike

Subject: Amazon Affiliate Link

I'm about to buy some truck parts, how can I get you guys the kickback? I tried to look through the description for the YouTube video which I thought was where I had seen show nose before and all it has is the date of the initial broadcast. Nothing on patreon as well. What am I missing? I thought I heard mention a guy who had bought a camera or something like that once on the show.

In other news, wife and I got our PAL/RPAL two weeks ago and I have picked up a few used guns, a .22 CZ 455 Varmint Evolution and a Ruger American 30-06 to start my collection. I found you guys when I was looking for a legit conservative Canadian podcast and your gun talk took me from wanting to do my PAL someday to finally acting on it. My bro has had his license for a couple of years ago he's handling my purchase and storage until I get my card in the mail.

I started listening to the First Focal Point Podcast yesterday, they're kind of like you guys but after listening to several hundred episodes of CPP they feel like imposters. Also listening to Slamfire radio, they mentioned you guys the other day I think and said you wouldn't be listening to them so they couldn't challenge you to match them on a CCFR donation. Maybe tell Rod if you donate he has to come on the show.

That Green candidate popped in on Reddit tonight.

https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/ikzbqg/a_few_words_from_the_green_party_leadership/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Thanks and keep up the good work, one of the highlights of my week is getting the CPP notification.

Mike

Listening to CPP truly well done.  And I bought one of the Hawaiian shirts on Amazon referencing you folks.  The shirts really are top quality and hey, genuine coconut buttons.  What could be better?

Completely agree with you on new Conservative leadership.  Analysis bang on.

Had a bit of bad behaviour that resulted in broken wrist & some ribs.  No shooting for a bit.  Might miss a couple of shoots.

Looking fwd to hearing your review of the upcoming Ottawa event.

Subject: Random Feedback

From:Emily

Hey guys!

Just wanted to tell you that I am enjoying your podcast very much - it is both entertaining and relevant!  Unfortunately I don't really have any feedback issues I can think of that I'd like addressed on your "listener feedback" shows, but if I think of anything I'll pass it on for sure.

My favourite silly part of the podcast is "what are you drinking".  It reminds me of my IDPA SO chat group on WhatsApp - every Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning before our weekly Wednesday evening club matches, this question gets asked: what are you shooting?  Lol!  Most of us can't even decide until we arrive at the club, we just bring a whole bunch of guns.

Anyway, looking forward to listening to "Catalina Wine Mixer"!  See you this Saturday at Guelph!

Emily :)

Subject: Book Club

From John

I bought “The Way Of Men” via the amazon link. I hope you guys got your nickle!

I already have “Starship Troopers”, I look forward to the episode.

I would like to suggest “The Last Centurion” by John Ringo, it’s Germaine to our current Covid situation. The author is a “Capital C” conservative and his books definitely highlight that bias. It’s a bias I echo so I really enjoy his work.

Keep it up, y’all are “doing gawds work”.

As Red Green says “Remember, you may have to grow old, but you don’t have to mature”

PS, if you’re looking for a chain-smoking, beer swilling, under-educated, over-opinionated guest/host.... I know a guy....

John

Subject: Firearms licensing

From King

Hey guys thanks for the great continual work on the show. What do you think about law enforcement to be mandated to have a valid firearms license for both pal and rpal licensing. I'm not a license holder but have taken the course. For personal reason I didn't follow through with getting my license. But one of the thing brought up in the course was the fact that the queens cowboys and local law enforcement are not mandated to have an active license. I think this would be a good idea for both firearms owners and the policing forces to understand the laws and communities surrounding firearms.

All gun laws are and infringement and should be abolished.
