A widely shared video on social media depicts a tense confrontation between a 21-year-old man and Calgary police officers after bylaw services were called to the Southwood community rink on Thursday.

Despite signage posted at the site, police said more than 40 people were using the outdoor rink — breaking gathering restrictions intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Subject: street level convictions

gonna try to get this point across without taking too much of you time.

yesterday right after work my coworker  left his place with weed and rolled through a City Police  checkstop.  the officer smelled weed and administered a field sobriety test.  he issued my friend a 72 hour license suspension & impounded the vehicle.  this   is a very impactful  outcome as it carries a host of conditions ie   impaired driving course.  demerit points.  increased license costs and  more.  all this is  done  on  the   keen? observation  of a so called "trained expert  without a shred of actual evidence.

at the checkstop the police told him to protest would take a blood test, but the results would take 60 days and his license would be held in forfeiture till then

after a bunch of phone calls today he was told by sgi the only thing to appeal is the 3 days  license suspension but that the process would take longer than 3 days. there is no way to appeal the $175 impared driving course, the estimated $265 tow and impound fee or the demerit points unless he was charged with a criminal offense of DUI. but since it was only a temporary license suspension, there is nothing to appeal, except the $360 charge of weed in an non govermentized container which he says he will not contest.

since he was not "criminally" charged for the DUI he doesn't even get a day in court .

law enforcement's  trained expert    passed the judgment in the field and  my friend  has   virtually NO  path to justice.

am I wrong in thinking this is a shit bag deal  ?

  • Magazines? They mean magazines, right?

  • all of the weapons were illegally obtained, three of them smuggled across the U.S. border
  • A Colt Law Enforcement Carbine, a Ruger mini-14, a Glock pistol, a Ruger P89
  • The mini-14 was purchased legally in Canada, but it is unlikely it was bought by Wortman who did not have any firearms licence

  • Impossible, not illegal, since you have to have a firearms license to purchase legally

12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos

Notes:

  • A self-help book that isn’t. It's written in a very strange way and contains elements of clinical psychology (Peterson’s field), personal anecdotes, summaries of academic work
  • It’s written very conversationally, but Peterson has a unique diction and can be hard to follow at times
  • Some critics appear critical because of Peterson’s outspoken stance on “Cultural Marxists” and  perspective on God; what is true, beautiful, and moral.

Rules:

  1. Stand up straight with your shoulders back
  2. Treat yourself like you are someone you are responsible for helping
  3. Make friends with people who want the best for you
  4. Compare yourself with who you were yesterday, not with who someone else is today
  5. Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them
  6. Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world
  7. Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)
  8. Tell the truth — or, at least, don’t lie
  9. Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t
  10. Be precise in your speech
  11. Do not bother children when they are skate-boarding
  12. Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street
