Controversial gun marking rules need 'substantial re-writing,' Goodale says

http://thestarphoenix.com/news/local-news/controversial-gun-marking-rules-need-substantial-re-writing-goodale-says

Goodale, meanwhile, defended the regulations. He said they are necessary because “there’s a growth in the source of supply” that goes beyond established firearms manufacturers whose guns are inscribed with serial numbers.

“Our objective here is to have a system ultimately in place that will assist police forces when weapons are used in the commission of an offence, but not impose an unreasonable or expensive burden on responsible, law-abiding gun owners.”

Ontario budget: Free drug plan for people under 25, more child care spaces

http://barrie.ctvnews.ca/ontario-budget-free-drug-plan-for-people-under-25-more-child-care-spaces-1.3388170

Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown said the budget is not, in fact, structurally balanced, because of one-time asset sale money -- such as the sale of shares of Hydro One -- and accounting "tricks," such as counting public pension surpluses as assets, against the advice of the province's Auditor general.

The Liberals had promised no new taxes on families, though they are increasing tobacco taxes by $10 per carton over the next three years and giving municipalities the power to introduce a hotel tax.

  • Affordable housing: The province will allocate some of its unused lands, worth between $75 million and $100 million, for the development of 2,000 new housing units in Toronto
  • Career planning: A new pledge of $190 million over three years for Career Kick-Start program, where high school and post-secondary students can access co-op programs and other training to better prepare them for the workforce
  • Daycare: A pledge to open 100,000 new child-care spaces with a quarter of those spots set to open this year
  • Rent control: Eliminating the 1991 'loophole' and extending rent control to all rental units in Ontario, in addition to other measures to help protect tenants and keep costs affordable

Op Medusa and other lies

Operation Medusa September 2–17, 2006 Canadian-led offensive during the second Battle of Panjwaii of the war in Afghanistan

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he accepted Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan’s apology for exaggerating his role in a combat operation in Afghanistan and has no intention of firing him.

Standing in the Commons, Trudeau rebuffed Conservative calls for Sajjan’s resignation, saying Sajjan acknowledged his “mistake,” apologized and “this minister continues and will continue to have my full confidence.”

“I’m not here to make any excuses for my mistake,” Sajjan said five times. “Or to give reasons for it.”

Retired Lt.-Col. Shane Schreiber, the soldier considered by many colleagues to be the most knowledgeable about the architecture of Op Medusa, told the Post in an interview late Friday that “Harj the soldier probably would not have said that. Harj the politician did, thinking that he could get away with it. When you are careless with words as a politician that can haunt you.”

Other “mistakes”

Conservative defence critic James Bezan

  • disputed claims by Sajjan that the Iraqis were accepting of Canada's decision to withdraw its CF-18s from combat against ISIS
  • misleading statements about the air force's capability gap
  • who was responsible for cutting danger pay for soldiers in Kuwait.

Title: Awesome show

Review: After watching the live feed, i can comfortably go back to the podcast. Your tactical beards do not cover enough face for the youtube stream to be family friendly. Based on appearance alone, i believe tactial balaclava's are in order. All kidding aside, great show. Hope to see you in Calgary for the CCFR AGM.
